Coal Creek Coffee Co. was born in 1993 in the form of a traditional American coffeehouse. It was purchased by John and Jodi Guerin two years later. The success that followed is the result of the hard working hands of this creative couple.

jj.jpgSome serious renovations took place before the dilapidated building in Laramie, Wyoming's historic downtown could attain the world-class reputation the coffeehouse holds today. With a driven focus on coffee culture, fine foods and all around quality, the Guerins became members of the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) in 1997. This global organization brings together business people and educators in all levels of the coffee industry from growers to café owners. Valuable ongoing education and the building of relationships are some of the benefits of this supportive organization holding the American industry standard.

The Coal Creek Coffee Roastery opened its doors in 1998. The regional need for a Rocky Mountain based, top quality coffee roastery along with the unerring devotion of our customers made it an instant success. We continue to expand and our ability to serve our wholesale clients has grown to include distribution for Ghirardelli Chocolates, SerendipiTea loose-leaf teas, David Rio chai teas, Monin Syrups and Elektra Espresso machines as well as a variety of brewers, grinders and other accoutrements.

Coal Creek Coffee Co. has won many awards over the years. The ones we hold most dear are the Best Small Business of the Year Award from the Laramie Economic Development Corp. and the Better Business Bureau's TORCH Award for outstanding business ethics.

What makes our coffee "edgy"? Our hometown philosophy of independent thinking gives us a sharp edge on our bigger 'competitors'. Our love of tradition, care for people and dedication toward handmade goods sets us apart. These concepts are a rarity in today's corporate world and that makes us edgy — not only in the world of coffee, but also in the greater culinary community.
